Managing Your Pets on Moving Day

Pets are part of the American family, and you want to make sure they’re comfortable on moving day. Moving into a new home can be stressful for pets for a lot of reasons ranging from loud noises to brand new smells. In this article we break down how to manage your pets on moving day and make them feel at home in your new place.

Keep Them in One Room

The last thing you need on moving day is for Fido to make a run for it. With all the commotion and people walking in and out of the house, it’s easy for pets to slip out without anyone noticing.

To prevent this, keep your pets corralled to one room equipped with their favorite toys and treats. They can stay comfortable and happy in there without tripping any movers or running out the front door.

Plan A Pet-Friendly Road Trip

Remember that pets can’t politely ask you to pull over so they can use the bathroom. If you have a long drive to your new destination, be sure to plan a pet-friendly road trip. Check the map to find nearby dog parks or other places your pets could run around and get some energy out. Also be sure to pack treats, a water bowl, and toys for your pet to play with.

Pet Proof Your New Place

Your pet is used to living in your old house, but now there is all new territory to explore. Make sure to check every nook and cranny for things they could get hurt on. Tuck away electrical cords and make sure screens are secure so your pet can’t break through them.
