About

Proud of Our Heritage

Castle & Cooke has a rich heritage with humble beginnings. The company was founded in 1851 by Samuel Northrup Castle and Amos Starr Cooke as a general store. From this small general store, the company has grown to become a worldwide leader in diverse industries, including food transportation and residential and commercial real estate, including real estate in Sierra Vista.

In 1988, Castle & Cooke purchased assets of Tenneco, including 2800 acres in Sierra Vista, The Pueblo del Sol Water Company and Pueblo del Sol Golf Course and County Club. This acquisition led to the development of new homes for sale in Sierra Vista in some of the finest neighborhoods in the area. These neighborhoods include Mountain Shadows, Country Club Estates, Eagle Ridge, Shadow Ridge, Mountain Ridge, Mission Hills, and the first active adult community in the area, Winterhaven, as well as commercial sites and military housing.

Castle & Cooke owner, David H. Murdock, is a self-made man who grew up in the Midwest and built a career as a residential and commercial builder in Phoenix in the post war years. After the real estate market collapsed in the 1960s, Murdock moved to California where his businesses and investments continued to grow and prosper. The company’s continued growth is attributed to its acquisition of publically traded companies, including Castle & Cooke with a unique approach to acquiring undervalued assets and finding creative ways to improve operations and utilize assets more effectively.

There is a home for sale in Sierra Vista for every family in our current communities of Holiday and The Oaks. At Castle & Cooke, the goal is more than building new homes in Sierra Vista. We build real neighborhoods with communities that feature parks, picnic areas, walking paths and pools to provide an amazing place for families to take root and thrive.
