Moving Hacks to Help You Settle in to Your New Home

Did you know that the average person moves nearly a dozen times during their lifetime? Moving is time consuming and labor-intensive work, even if you hire professional movers. Fortunately, there are a few tricks you can use to get settled in more quickly and with less stress.

Use a color code for your boxes.

You can save a ton of time by using a simple color code system. Purchase a few sheets of colorful dot stickers and designate one color for each room in the home. Slap on the appropriate sticker every time you finish packing a box. Be sure to put the sticker on the side, rather than the top, as you may be stacking your boxes. This will ensure that each box gets to the right room quickly.

Don’t remove drawers from the dressers.

It’s time-consuming to remove each item of clothing from a dresser and pack it separately. Instead, remove a drawer and wrap it in plastic wrap. If your dresser drawers are too heavy to move when they are filled, just wrap the entire dresser in plastic wrap and have the movers load it on a hand truck.

Leave your clothes on the hangers.

There is no need to take the time to remove each item of clothing from its hanger, especially since you’ll only need to put them all back on the hangers when you arrive at your new home. Instead, leave the hangers on the closet rod while grouping them into bunches of about seven to nine. Then, work a large, unused garbage bag up over each bunch.

Put your suitcases to good use.

People often pack clothes in their suitcases while moving. However, it’s actually better to use them for heavy items, since they have wheels and can be easily moved. For instance, you can use them for your books.
