Sierra Vista, Arizona is a friendly town that knows how to have a good time. New residents are pleasantly surprised to learn that the town is host to a number of unique events each year. There’s something for everyone—from live music and fantastic food to jewelry and art fests.
Art in the Park
Held every October, Art in the Park brings together some of the most talented artists and craftsmen. You’ll see paintings, textiles, sculptures, pottery, and much more. It’s the perfect opportunity to get a jumpstart on your holiday shopping!
Huachuca Gem, Mineral, and Jewelry Show
This popular get-together is also held in October each year. It features live demonstrations and educational displays for amateur and professional rock hounds alike. If you have any mysterious gemstones you can’t identify, you can take them to the certified gemologist for a free identification. The show also holds raffles each year.
Sierra Vista Sips & Skies
Sierra Vista Sips & Skies is widely considered to be the signature event of the area. Formerly called Savor Sierra Vista, it’s held in May each year. It includes the Wine, Beer, & Spirits Festival, where you can enjoy the region’s finest micro brews, wines, and distilled spirits while checking out the live entertainment. Or, join in the Sky Islands Summit Challenge! Hike one, two, or three of the Huachuca Mountains in one day.
Hummingbird Banding Sessions
Perhaps the most unique annual event in Sierra Vista is the banding of the hummingbirds. Locals and visitors flock to these banding sessions, which are conducted by the staff and volunteers of the Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory. About 10 different hummingbird species can be found along the San Pedro River during their migration. They’re gently captured, measured, banded, and released. There is no charge to meet these beautiful creatures.
